Attain Healthtech named finalist in Australian AI Awards for Innovation in Healthcare

Attain Healthtech proudly announces it is a finalist in the Australian AI Awards 2025 in the AI Innovator Healthcare category. The nomination recognises the company's groundbreaking work in applying Artificial Intelligence to enhance client safety and operational efficiency within the aged care sector.

The Australian AI Awards recognise professionals, organisations, and solutions transforming the economy, spanning industries from banking, law, and accounting to wealth management, defence, aerospace, cyber, and beyond.

Attain Healthtech nominated its aged care provider, HomeMade, for its bespoke AI solution. The solution is a custom-developed Large Language Model (LLM) created with the input of the company's Data Scientists and Clinical Nurses. The aim is to address the challenge of manually reviewing thousands of daily support worker shift notes for more than 3,000 clients.

The AI Moderation tool automatically triages shift notes to accurately identify incidents such as falls, medication errors, and other critical clinical indicators that require urgent review. By automating this initial triage, the system has achieved a near-perfect identification rate, with over 98.5% of urgent reviews accurately flagged.

The implementation of the LLM has enabled a fundamental shift from a reactive to a proactive care model. Key benefits include:

  • Enhanced Client Safety: The model's specialised training allows it to detect subtle cues and patterns, flagging potential incidents even when they are not explicitly mentioned in the notes. For example, identifying potential fall risks or early signs of conditions such as pressure injuries through worker observations.

  • Operational Efficiency: Since integrating the tool in December 2023, the process has saved more than 45 hours of clinical nurse time per week. This allows clinical nurses to focus their expertise on the highest priority cases.

  • Transparency and Trust: The LLM provides explanations and confidence ratings for each decision, which are vital for clinical validation and continuous improvement.

Laura Westhorpe, HomeMade's CEO, said, "Being named a finalist is a great recognition of how AI can be used to both improve customer outcomes and increase operational efficiency in aged care.

"This achievement acknowledges HomeMade as an industry innovator, and the real difference we make in keeping older people safe and providing their families invaluable peace of mind," said Laura.
